Lift Your Gaze...

For those of you wondering, Yes, Fillimena is my real first name. I am always asked, “Do you have something shorter I can call you?” or “What do your friends call you?”

Fillimena (pronounced ("Fill-'Lemon'-Ah") is my name. Please don’t shorten it; I like it just the way it is! I am just as unusual as my name. I do not fit the mold of the norm and I'm determined not to accept my fate as an occurrence of happenstance as I continue to search and explore all that life has to offer.

I could never live far from the ocean. It is from the rolling waves that I obtain solace to continue my searching. I derive inspiration from all forms of nature. I first became aware of the peace and inspiration that is nature’s gift while exploring the forests and mountains of the Wind River Shoshone reservation during my youth. Nature inspires some part of every piece of art that I create.

Music is another source of inspiration for me. Music is, after all, a form of communication from one artist (or artists) to another. Native American Tribal music often inspires my creative spirit to come forth. The soothing flutes and rhythmic drums reflect the ceremonies and rituals performed by my people. Many of the pieces I create are used by the Shoshone in these same rituals today.

I delight in life's challenges and try to rise above its hardships, hoping my time on earth has made a difference. I like helping people, for I believe that only by sharing yourself with others can you realize your full potential. I enjoy different experiences and draw inspiration from each new discovery.

I strive to be a diverse woman. I try to approach each situation life serves up in a distinctive way. I try not to be too predictable and enjoy all there is to my life. Being a nurturing spirit by nature, I try to encourage others to lift their gaze and live outside the box of our daily experience so they too can realize the full potential of the human spirit and derive maximum pleasure in this great adventure. My personal philosophy reflects this: 'Life is not a dress rehearsal.’
